3 Things To Check After Your Vehicle's Doors Have Had Body Repair

If you were involved in an accident or otherwise needed to have your vehicle's doors repaired by a body shop, you probably want to ensure that your car looks its best. It is important to thoroughly inspect your vehicle when you pick it up -- then, if you find any problems, you can address them immediately. These are a few things that you should check after your vehicle's doors have had body repair.

1. Make Sure Each Door Opens and Closes Easily

First of all, you should open and close each door a few times. Make sure that each door opens and closes easily. The door should not have to be forced open, it shouldn't feel as if it is "sticking," and it shouldn't feel as if it falls out of line when you're in the process of opening or closing it. Ensuring that each door opens and closes easily will help you ensure that it's installed correctly and that the door is the proper fit for your make and model of vehicle, since even minor variations can make a big difference, and even minor issues can become more problematic over time.

2. Check the Windows

Along with opening and closing each of your doors a few times, you should also open and close the windows multiple times. Make sure that they go up and down as they are supposed to and that they seal completely when closed. If the doors are not installed correctly or are not a perfect match, there can be problems with the windows not lining up. This can lead to problems like wind noise and leaks around your windows or can simply make your windows difficult to open and close as needed.

3. Look for Inconsistencies in the Paint Job

In many cases, only the doors are repaired are painted while the rest of the paint job is left the same. You don't want this to be noticeable, however, so take a look at your car in several different angles -- in natural sunlight rather than in the bay at the body shop -- to ensure that there are no inconsistencies. If you can easily tell that one of your doors is a different color from the rest of your car, then the body shop needs to paint it again with a better-matched paint.

If your vehicle doors have had body repair, check these three things when picking up your car. Then, you can help ensure that there aren't any problems and that you'll be happy with the way that your car looks and functions.
